"we specialise in delivering thoughtfully crafted residential architecture"

LAURA MINCA

BA (Hons) MA MArch PG Dip ARB BA

Growing up in a multinational environment — with a need to feel at “home”, however temporary — has given me an international perspective, paired with a deep sensitivity to what is local. This duality continues to shape both my work and personal life in profound ways.

I am grateful to have studied architecture in the UK, specialising in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Westminster and the Manchester School of Architecture for my Bachelor's, Master's, and Post-professional degrees. The intensity of that time — shaped by divergent viewpoints, passionate mentors, and the raw beauty of the UK’s urban, rural and coastal landscapes — continues to inspire my practice today.

At the MSA, my love for architecture expanded across scales and forms: from urban politics and set design to nomadic architecture and mobile living typologies. It was during this period that I chose to focus on residential architecture — combining my fascination with craft and my commitment to using materials in thoughtful, grounded ways.

After six years of experience working at award-winning studios in London and Rotterdam — including MVRDV, ESA Capita, dMFK Architects and Fletcher Priest Architects — I founded Atelier Umbra. A creative home where sustainable residential architecture meets a timeless, restrained aesthetic rooted in craft, clarity, and care.

Every home I design is deeply personal. I approach each project as a collaboration — a quiet dialogue between place, material, and the people who will inhabit it. It’s a privilege to translate someone’s way of living into built form, and I carry that responsibility with both joy and intention.
