"we specialise in delivering thoughtfully crafted residential architecture"

LAURA MINCA

BA (Hons) MA MArch PG Dip ARB BA

Growing up in a multinational environment with a need to be at “home” (however temporary) wherever I am in the world, has gifted me an international outlook with sensitivity for all that is local. It has an incredible influence on my work and personal life.

I am grateful to have studied architecture in the UK, specialising in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Westminster and Manchester School of Architecture for my Bachelors, Masters and Post-professional degrees. Intense exposure to diverging opinions and personalities, passionate teachers and the raw diversity of UK city, rural and coastal landscapes still fires my work today. At the MSA, my love for architecture and design came to take different forms and scales, ranging from urban politics and set design studies to the research of nomadic architecture and mobile living typologies. It was at that point in time that I decided to pursue my interest in residential architecture combined with a deeper understanding of craftsmanship and thoughtful, sensible use of materials.

After gathering experience over six years working across award-winning practices based in London and Rotterdam - including MVRDV, ESA Capita, dMFK Architects and Fletcher Priest Architects - I founded Atelier Umbra. This new home for creative thought brings together my interest in sustainable residential architecture, combined with my passion to achieve a the timeless aesthetic through each of my designs.

I am also the enthusiastic founder of “Pinch.Point Architect”,  a mentoring platform to support female industry professionals with insight, resources and encouragement to thrive in their personal work environment.
